Volunteer with HFUW’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program this Tax Season: No Tax Experience Is Required!

Blog VITA Volunteers

Tax season is upon us, and Heart of Florida United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program needs your help!

Our VITA Volunteers are trained to assist individuals that earn $73,000 or less in the preparation of their annual tax return for FREE. VITA Season begins in early February and runs through April 15 at most sites. With locations throughout Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties, you can choose where you would like to volunteer to provide this FREE service.

VITA Volunteer Roles

The following volunteer roles are available for community members to join our VITA program to help our neighbors file their 2022 taxes at no cost.

Site Coordinator:

Lead and manage the operations that fuel our community, providing coordination, organization and supervision for all aspects of a VITA site. As a site coordinator, you are responsible for the quality review, gathering, maintaining and compiling of timely statistical reports as required by partners.

Tax Preparer:

Learn a valuable life skill and make a difference in the lives of others in our community by preparing income tax returns free of charge. Receive free IRS training, certification, and materials. No previous accounting or tax experience necessary.

Tax Site Greeter:

Welcome clients to the tax site, review their identification and paperwork to ensure all are in order, and keep the waiting room running smoothly. Two-hour training is required.

Become a VITA Volunteer

Are you looking for a way to make a difference in your community?

There will be two Live (two-day) in-person training sessions on January 7 and 14, and on January 21 and 28. Sign up for in-person training sessions here!

Virtual VITA Training Sessions

You can register for Virtual VITA Training Sessions here! Click the following link to view the Virtual VITA Training Calendar.

Please note, all volunteers have to complete four training sessions (A, B, C, D). It is recommended that you take the four sessions consecutively but due to availability, it’s understood that some volunteers may take session A one week and not take session B until the following week. Volunteers must complete the sessions in sequential order – meaning if you have only participated in Session A, you cannot jump to Session C.  Upon registering, please select Heart of Florida United Way as the organization.

We hope to see you there!
