LeadHER Forward Speakers: Karen Keene and Beth Smith

This Women’s History Month, join us and the Girl Scouts of Citrus Council for an unforgettable evening at the LeadHER Forward Networking Night, an event dedicated to inspiring, empowering, and connecting women across Central Florida. As we plan to gather at the new Women’s History & Cultural Center on March 7 from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m., we are thrilled to offer an experience that promises not just networking opportunities, but the unique chance to hear from two influential women leaders in our community: Karen Keene, founder of ATHENA Orlando Women’s Leadership, and Beth Smith, Vice President of Government & Education at Cigna Healthcare’s Florida markets.

Meet Our Inspirational Speakers

Karen Keene: Redefining courage and leadership

Karen’s journey is a reminder of the resilience and strength of the human spirit. Nearly four years ago, her life took a dramatic turn following a near-fatal home invasion. Through 26 life-saving surgeries and an indomitable will to survive, Karen has emerged not only as a survivor but as a beacon of hope and leadership for women everywhere.

As the founder of ATHENA Orlando Women’s Leadership, Karen has dedicated herself to empowering women and transforming the landscape of leadership in Orlando. Her story is not just one of survival but of profound transformation, serving as a powerful reminder of how personal challenges can become the catalysts for professional and personal growth. Karen’s discussion will delve into the depths of adversity and unveil how to emerge stronger, more connected, and more purposeful.

Beth Smith: Championing community engagement

Beth Smith, with her extensive background in public sector strategy and community relations, currently serves as the Vice President of Government & Education at Cigna Healthcare’s Florida markets. Her journey from managing community relations at Orlando Health to leading strategic initiatives at Cigna showcases her commitment to making a difference in the community.

Beth’s story is one of unwavering dedication to public service and innovation. Her insights on leadership, especially in the challenging landscape of healthcare and government, will provide attendees with actionable strategies for overcoming obstacles and making impactful changes. Beth’s experience as an alumna of the ATHENA NextGen class of 2014 also highlights the significance of finding a supportive network of women leaders.
