Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Join Heart of Florida United Way as a volunteer for our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.

Make a difference this tax season with Heart of Florida United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. You do not need to have prior tax experience to volunteer, and you can help save Central Florida residents millions in Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC) and by helping them maximize their tax refunds.

Volunteers receive free training to provide free tax help for low-to-moderate income families who need assistance preparing their tax returns. As a volunteer, you will join the thousands of others who each year prepare millions of tax returns at thousands of tax sites nationwide.

Volunteers are trained to assist individuals that earn $73,000 or less in the preparation of their annual tax return for FREE. VITA Season begins early February and runs through April 15th at most sites.

With locations throughout Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties, choose where you want to volunteer to provide this FREE service.

You can volunteer as one of three available volunteer positions:

  • Site Coordinator: Lead and manage the operations that fuel our community, providing coordination, organization and supervision for all aspects of a VITA site. As a site coordinator, you are responsible for the quality review, gathering, maintaining and compiling of timely statistical reports as required by partners.
  • Tax Preparer: Learn a valuable life skill and make a difference in the lives of others in our community by preparing income tax returns free of charge. Receive free IRS training, certification, and materials. No previous accounting or tax experience necessary.
  • Tax Site Greeter: Welcome clients to the tax site, review their identification and paperwork to assure all are in order, keep the waiting room running smoothly. Two-hour training required.

Sign up to volunteer today. In-person and virtual trainings are available.
