Volunteers Stand Together Against Hunger at Share the Love 2024

Blog Header 10

This year’s Share the Love event was dedicated to addressing a critical issue affecting many of our Central Florida neighbors: food insecurity.

Food insecurity remains a year-round challenge for many families in our community, often due to circumstances beyond their control. While the holiday season traditionally sees a surge in donations and volunteerism, many still struggle to provide meals for their families all year long.

On February 17th, we rallied a diverse group of volunteers at U.S. Hunger’s facilities for a day filled with purpose and community. Our incredible volunteers assembled 10,000 meals of red lentil jambalaya for families in need throughout Central Florida.

The meals were then delivered via four of our partner agencies: Meals on Wheels, United Against Poverty, Christian Help Employment & Resource Center, and the Coalition for the Homeless, which is rebuilding after a fire recently destroyed the shelter.

The turnout was inspiring, with individuals of all ages coming together — families, friends, and colleagues — united in their desire to make a difference.

The event was a reminder of the power of community, and an opportunity for people from all walks of life to contribute to those facing challenging times. We are so grateful for every volunteer who contributed their time and energy! Together, we took a significant step toward feeding Central Florida, proving that when we LIVE UNITED, we can have a substantial impact.

We encourage everyone to continue sharing their love and support for our Central Florida community. Whether through volunteering for future events, donating to Heart of Florida United Way, or simply spreading the word, every action counts toward combating hunger and lifting up those in need.

Stay connected with Heart of Florida United Way by subscribing to our e-newsletter and following us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X (formerly Twitter).

Together, let’s keep the momentum going and make every month a time to share the love.
