Amanda is a single mother, full-time employee and full-time college student at Seminole State College of Florida working hard to build a better future for herself and her child.
An unexpected car expense, combined with a rent increase from her leasing office, created a financial setback Amanda wasn’t prepared for. As her bills began to pile up, she found herself falling behind on rent and wondering how she would make everything work.
The timing was especially difficult. Between working full time, pursuing her education and caring for her child, Amanda was already balancing a lot. The unexpected expenses left her feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about what would come next.
Having reached out to Destination Graduation for resources in the past, Amanda decided to seek help again. That decision connected her with a Destination Graduation case manager who went above and beyond to support her during a difficult time.
Through the program, Amanda received assistance that allowed her to pay her rent and regain a sense of stability. Instead of having to choose between keeping a roof over her family’s head, caring for her child and continuing her education, Amanda was able to keep moving forward.
Today, Amanda is preparing to graduate with her associate degree in criminal justice. She plans to continue her education at Seminole State College of Florida in the public safety bachelor’s program, with the goal of becoming a forensic investigator.
The support she received did more than help Amanda overcome an immediate financial challenge. It helped protect the future she has been working so hard to create.
“I was able to pay my rent, continue focusing on graduating, and still be present for my child,” Amanda said. “The kindness and compassion shown to me reminded me that I was not alone during a difficult time.”

Over the past year (2024–2025), our investments positively impacted 68,662 children, youth, students, and their guardians as we worked to increase educational attainment, high school graduation rates, and post-secondary achievement. Initiatives like upliftED and Destination Graduation have been instrumental in bridging learning gaps and fostering environments where every student can thrive.
