Barb’s Story
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program helps low-income families and individuals needing assistance with filing their taxes. Working with IRS-trained volunteers, clients are able to submit their taxes with personalized in-person help or online. It is a free service with multiple tax sites available in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties that provides an accurate and full tax refund that goes directly to the client.
Barb’s daughter had recently completed her college degree in New Jersey, but had no luck finding a job. The two moved to Central Florida where her daughter started work doing triage at a hospital.
When tax time came, Barb wanted help filing but couldn’t afford to pay for a tax service like she had used previously. Her friend recommended she visit a VITA site where she was able to get the help she needed without paying a fee.
Using her tax refund, Barb paid for her daughter to get her Registered Nurse degree, putting them on the pathway towards financial stability!
