Each year, Heart of Florida United Way hosts key events that support our mission. From the elegant Chef’s Gala to United Way Day of Caring – the region’s single largest volunteer event – these events help alleviate critical needs in Central Florida. They also offer ways for businesses and individuals to get involved and make a difference.
Throughout Central Florida, 350,000 households are struggling to make ends meet. In Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties, 46% of families are living on the verge of financial disaster, and they are ALICE (Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed).
ALICE cannot always pay the bills, has little or nothing in savings, and is forced to make tough choices like deciding between healthy and nutritious meals or paying the rent. When an unexpected emergency occurs, food insecurity becomes a more pronounced issue in the household, and families can be left worrying about how to afford a family meal.
Share the Love brings together volunteers to pack nutritious, shelf-stable meals for families in need. This year, our goal is to create over 1,000 meals to feed 6,000 people in our community.
Don’t miss your opportunity to Share the Love with another family this Valentine’s season. Bring your family, friends, or even your Valentine to experience the rewarding feeling of creating “Friendship Soup.” All ages are welcome! We are asking volunteers to contribute $10 through event registration to help us reduce waste and increase cost efficiency – this is equivalent to feeding five families. Two event dates to chose from!
