Women’s Leadership Initiative |
The United Way Women’s Leadership Initiative raises awareness, funds and volunteer support to address problems that disproportionately affect women and children, such as domestic violence, poverty, access to health care and child care, and other critical issues.
Co-chaired by Helen Donegan, Vice President of Community Relations for UCF, and Karen Dee, President/CEO of Fifth Third Bank, Central & North Florida, the initiative is guided by the Executive Council, comprised of prominent local female business and civic leaders.
Prompting the initiative is the fact that women, regardless of income, age or walk of life, are vulnerable to a range of issues that can devastate their lives, as well as the lives of people closest to them. Nearly two-thirds of clients served by United Way partner agencies are women, many of whom are single heads of households.
