Living United Through Volunteerism |
Each year, thousands of community volunteers roll up their sleeves and donate their time and talent to help local nonprofit agencies and the clients they serve. To recognize this commitment and encourage greater volunteerism, United Way recently sponsored a month-long photo exhibit, Living United Through Volunteerism.
Held in conjunction with National Volunteer Month, the exhibit was presented in April at public libraries in Orange, Osecola and Seminole counties.
It was launched April 1 with a private reception at The Mall at Millenia co-hosted by Richard T. Crotty, Orange County Mayor and United Way Campaign Chair, and Scott Maxwell, Orlando Sentinel columnist.
"At United Way, volunteerism is a major component of our efforts to build a stronger, healthier, more engaged community," said Lorri Highet, Director of the United Way Volunteer Resource Center (VRC). "As local agencies struggle in this difficult economy to keep pace with growing demand for services, volunteers are more important than ever."
People visiting the exhibits were encouraged to contact the United Way Volunteer Resource Center (VRC) to find out ways they could get involved.
Would your company like to host a Living United Through Volunteerism photo exhibit?
Companies wishing to promote employee volunteerism and community commitment are able to host the photo exhibit in their workplaces. Corporate volunteerism is a triple win. In addition to helping local agencies and people in need, volunteering enhances employee teamwork and gives companies a chance to shine as responsible, community-minded partners.
