Improving Financial Stability

People who are financially stable understand the available options for acquiring and managing assets and have the opportunity to choose and implement healthy financial decisions. Reliable income, stable employment, awareness and comprehension of financial services, access to resources, and a strong support system help create the opportunity to make wise financial choices.

Our goal: Focus on prevention by addressing root causes of financial instability with evidenced-based initiatives/programs that have measurable impacts at the community level.

A community with a financially stable population fosters these opportunities in order to empower people to achieve personal financial stability.  The most common underlying factors that undermine individual financial stability include: lack of financial awareness/knowledge; lack of education/training; being unbanked (not having a banking relationship with a mainstream financial institution); un/under-employment; lack of savings; poor credit; hurdles to accessing public and employer benefits; and insufficient income.

The 2008 Heart of Florida United Way Tri-County Needs Assessment identified lack of financial stability as a leading community concern.
